Blackout by Studio Baag
This coat rack from Studio Baag is made from six solid beams of maple wood, in which the blackened edges literally have been charred to resemble used matches. I photographed this piece because it is so interesting- such a simple idea scaled up to create a functional and attractive coat stand.
"The inspiration from a child’s past. A cold winter’s night. A child sits by the fire and watches his grandmother heat the cold house. Bundles of used matches clutter the floor, leaving remnants of ash and smoke lingering in the thick air. A piece from the collection entitled “Recycling Memories” – where each piece is reborn and given new life through a functional yet systematic meaning in the surrounding environment."
